She’s that morning conversation on the way to work, just to catch up on what we both did the day before.
She’s the first one that I call when something exciting happens in my life!
Whenever marriage gets tough, she’s constantly encouraging me and helping me see the bigger picture.
When I was struggling through nursing school, she was the one ALWAYS pushing me and telling me that I COULD DO IT!
She taught me how to sing by harmonizing to the radio on our way to softball practice!
Her hug is one of the best feelings in the word, and her voice calms my heart the minute I hear it!
My mom is the reason that I am the nurse and person that I am today, and I know MANY of you have mothers and feel the same way!
Now WE are Taking Care of The Mothers
As nurses, we take care of mothers every single day. We may not know their children. We may not know their stories. But chances are, they raised up children just like ours did. They spent their life taking care of others, doing laundry, preparing dinner, giving bathes, wiping butts, doing dishes, and constantly putting others before themselves. Now we’re in a position where we are taking care of those mothers on a daily basis.
I don’t want anyone to ever become desensitize or lose site of the fact that we take care of mothers just like ours! If my mom was ever in the hospital, I would want her nurse taking care of her just like my mom was her own!
Don’t Get Desensitized
We nurses tend to get caught up in routine and task, and don’t realize the precious gift that has been entrusted to us! We still take good care of them, but if we knew the depth of their personal story with their children and family, I bet we’d change our ways a little bit! We don’t always get to know their stories and hear of all the people who truly love them!
Their children are praying for them all over the world, and trusting the professionals who have their mothers in their care. It is our duty and calling to take the best care of these Mamas every day! You would want the same for yours!
Taking Care Of Mothers Today
Whether you’re an L&D nurse bringing a mother’s first child into the world today, or a hospice nurse supporting a family letting go of a mother, don’t forget what yours has meant to you! Treat all of your patients as if they were your mom. You would want nothing less for yours.
If you are a working Mama taking care of others today, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART! Your maternal beauty and ways are a comfort for those in your hands! If you’re working today and not a mother, serve those working moms around you in small ways today, and love on your patients well! Ask those patients who are mothers a little about their life. I’m sure they feel honored to be a mom! Take the time to nurture and be attentive to your patients! Love on those Mamas spending their day in the hospital!
Without my mom, I would be nothing! She is my best friend, a comedic relief, a calming voice, and my biggest fan! Many of you would not be in this profession if it wasn’t for yours!
Happy Mothers Day to all of the amazing Nurses out there and the ones sacrificing being away from their children and family to take care of others today!
Your Heart Is Mine,
Kelsey
