Blogging Resources

Are you a Nurse who is passionate about a topic within our profession? Are you wanting to launch a wellness business as a Nurse and needing a site to be able to share your product and services? Blogging is an INCREDIBLE hobby and tool to build your dreams and share your passions! I started my journey with blogging 6 years ago when I launched my first blog “Yourheartismine.” I was so passionate about nursing and sharing my experience as a new grad. I struggled with many emotions while learning my way and I found an outlet through blogging! In the beginning, it was simply a creative outlet. A place where I could help others relate and let them know that they weren’t alone! It has evolved into what it’s become today and I’m SO thankful I had the courage to start 6 years ago!

I’ve been able to share my message and blogs with millions of people all over the world, and it’s the reason I’m able to grow a business full time while working PRN as a nurse today! It brought me to the Dr.Oz Show. It brought me to Capitol Hill to share my spoken word on safe staffing. It allowed me to launch an essential oil business and build a side income. It’s allowed me to help other nurses grow their dreams and build brands that make an impact while making an income doing what they love! If you have any inkling to launch a blog, my advice is DO IT!

It won’t be perfect the first time. It will take some time to figure it all out. I’m still learning today, but the hard part is simply starting! I remember when I launched, I didn’t know where to start! I believe I just goggled it and navigated my way, but I wish I would have stumbled across a page like this that provided the resources I needed all in one place! The world needs your message and your voice, so put one foot in front of the other and start that journey!

Below is a list of resources that I’ve used for mine:

 

 

GoDaddy– this is where you will create your website name! It’s important to pick a name that others don’t already have! Something that is memorable and will “stick” in peoples brains! This is part of strong branding. I started with “Yourheartismine.net” and rebranded to “Wholelifenurse.com.” You can always stick to your own name or something that makes sense and represents your message, service, or brand!

 

 

Bluehost- this is where your website will live! It’s like the house for your blog! You are essentially renting a place on the internet to have your blog safe, viable, and protected. It belongs to YOU (vs social media where those platforms belong to someone else)!

 

Studiopress- This is where you buy the theme of your site! This is the fun part! Now don’t be alarmed, when you get your theme, it’s not going to look like the example. You will have to build it up, but this can be super fun! You only need a theme because you have hosting through Bluehost above!

 

Email List – I recommend that you start building an email list with mailchimp! It’s free for the first 2,000 people who join your list and it’s incredible for your journey when you are first starting out! Collecting your reader’s email is VITAL because it’s a way to directly keep in touch with them and how they get to know, like, and trust you! This allows you to notify them when you post a new blog or have anything important you need to share! If there is one regret I have in my business, it was not having an email collecting program in place when I started!

 

Online Courses – If you are wanting to teach online courses, I HIGHLY recommend Teachable! This is the platform I use! This is an incredible place to build digital courses and products to share with your following! You can create courses and education around the message of your brand and blog. You can also generate leads by offering FREE courses on this platform. I’m OBSESSED with Teachable and all that you can do on it! I HIGHLY recommend!

Logo Design– I am OBSESSED with 99designs! The process is SO fun and they are so professional! My Whole Life Nurse logo was designed with 99designs! You basically fill out a form that thoroughly explains to designers what you’re looking for. You then submit and the “contest” begins. Graphic designers are competing for your bid. So multiple designers pitch you a logo based on the info you fill out in the beginning. You give the designers feedback as their designs come back to you. You can have them change and adjust things. You end up with close to 30 professional designs to choose from. You then narrow them down to your top picks and work exclusively with those final designers. Then you pick your design and you get a whole set of files to create any material you want with your logo! While a logo isn’t required for a blog, I find it very valuable and makes you feel confident starting out! LOVE IT!

 

 

Grahpics- My favorite place to make graphics for free is Canva! These are great for social media graphics and blog graphics! I also love the app WordSwag!
