Hi Nurse Nation! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Kelsey. I’m a Registered Nurse from Atlanta, GA. I created this blog, Yourheartismine about 5 years ago, and I had no idea that simply sharing my passion and love for people and this profession would grow into what it’s become!
I knew when I created Yourheartismine, I wanted it to be be used for GOOD. I wanted to be able to bring nurses together, and share experiences and stories that encourage, motivate, inspire, and help them! So this is why I am writing this blog today: to simply unite nurses for good!
Last week, my friend Morgan from Nightingale Nurse Clothing Co. reached out to me about her heavy heart for the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston and the surrounding areas. Morgan and I connected through social media, and we simply became friends because: A. She’s a NURSE with a nurse born business B. Her heart is amazing. And c. She’s incredibly talented at what she does: t-shirt design!
We got to chatting about how we wanted to help support The Hurricane Harvey Victims. We decided it would be so cool to start a t-shirt campaign to raise money for victims in Houston! She was already all over it! Within the hour of that idea, Morgan had designed these “Nurses Healing Houston” shirts! She’s just ridiculously talented and her heart for others is the icing on the cake! I told her that I wanted to help her promote! So I started sharing her campaign on my social media!
Four days later, she’s sold over 200 shirt and raised almost $4,000!!!!! We honestly couldn’t believe it! Morgan met her goal of 200 shirts in 4 days! We had researched charities to donate to before we started this campaign, and we stumbled across Houston’s Mayor, Sylvester Turner’s Hurricane Relief Fund. It’s being run by the Greater Houston Community Foundation! We reached out to GHCF to let them know what nurses ALL over were doing, and this was their response:
“Hi Kelsey
First and foremost, I want to SINCERELY thank you for you and your nurse friends’ support in Georgia and all over the US – we can’t even begin to express how grateful we are!
The distributions and grants will be made in support of the Fund’s charitable purposes: relief efforts to aid the victims of the flooding and other damage caused by Hurricane Harvey, including shelter and temporary housing needs, food and supplies, healthcare, transportation, child care, facility needs of child care and social service agencies, and other purposes approved by the advisory committee and consistent with the Fund’s charitable purposes. Because of the immense need in and around Houston, this Fund is dedicated to filling the gaps that are not met by other local and federal efforts. A fund advisory committee has been established and will ensure that there is a process to determine unmet needs in the area.
I hope this helps to explain what the funds will ultimately go towards – thank you again for your support!”
