I don’t really know how to express the love I have for my fellow nurses and amazing staff that I work with. Healthcare has turned into something that nursing school never even touched on. It never even got close to the reality of what this job really is.
What Nursing School Didn’t Prepare Us For
Nursing school DID NOT prepare us for the madness of the healthcare business. It did not prepare us for survival on short staffing days. It drives me crazy and it’s driving GOOD nurses away. I have a little inkling of hope that we can turn this madness around (even just a little) and restore the heart of this profession by loving and supporting each other, and being a VOICE! I CANT EXPRESS HOW WE NEED UNITY every single day! Having each other’s backs. Quit the finger pointing and the one upping. This role is too dang hard to bring more madness into the mix!
The Business is Creating Division
The business is causing division. We’re all so scared to death of making mistakes and we leave with anxiety on our drive home thinking of all that we didn’t do/chart. You might be finding yourself searching job sites to see what NON bedside jobs are out there, with less patient interaction ( aka less risk for liability issues and burnout). It’s coming to that. The MORE PATIENT CARE, the more risk. THAT BREAKS MY HEART! We feel the need to cover our butts so much that I truly believe it’s fostering a culture of division, and looking out for only ones self, when really we should be supporting and protecting the whole team.
The Business is stealing all that I came into this profession for: TAKING GOOD AND SAFE CARE OF PATIENTS!
This Is “Our” Profession
Nursing is a team effort. It’s takes a team to win a game. It is my hope and my heart that we can all acquire a mindset of “this is OUR profession” and not just “my profession.”
Join me in labeling and supporting this week as a week of advocacy for this beautiful profession! Love on each other well. Lend an extra hand. Quit complaining and start doing. Be kind to your coworkers. Speak positive words and use positive action. I’m not perfect, but we can all try a little better.
I LOVE ALL OF THE AMAZING NURSES that I work alongside every day! You guys are absolutely freaking amazing! Keep loving and supporting on one another. It’s the only answer! #NursesTakeDC
